What is performance?
Performance art is a part of visual arts. Performance is an event created by an individual or group of people and expresses previously generated in front of an audience; to express their idea performance artists use their bodies and any other means available.
What is the point of performance art?
What is the point of culture in general? There is no tangible benefit from it; however everybody listens to music, some go to theatre and love beautiful things, but others like to experience performance. Successful performance is benefit for both – the performer and the viewer; it can be the most memorable adventure for the viewer in his whole cultural experience.
Why people create performances?
For each artist it is an individual reason but usually artists use performance to express themselves, to invoke dialogue with society about important matters.

Does performance art is the same form of art as, for example, painting?
Yes, performance art is traditionally included in visual arts the same as painting; the difference is that oil painting centuries old art forma, it emerged in 13th century and seems to us more acceptable and easy to understand, while classic performance is much younger and emerged only in 20th century and there is less information and convention for it.
How to understand, “read” performance art?
Every artist and every performance has its own language; if you didn’t catch the meaning of the performance consider that maybe the artist didn’t spoke in language you understand or about issues that is important for you. Maybe other viewers did understand it and liked it. Nevertheless it is also possible that performance was unsuccessful. There are artists who deliberately create performances that are enigmatic to foul the trail; then audience’s dismay, puzzlement and misconceptions are parts of their performance.
Performance art is for insiders and others can’t understand it
If performance artists know each other, create their performances together or participate in performance art festivals, it doesn’t mean that they understand each others performance art better than audience or that they are united in some kind of conspiracy against the society. Performance art from its beginnings has been forbidden and underground and that’s why it is difficult to imagine that it could become a part of pop culture.
Performance art is not theatre, opera, musical performance, dance concert or light show (or maybe it is)? What differs performance art from other art forms?
Performance art is not theatre, opera, dance, nor light show. But performance art uses other elements from various fields – costumes from theatre, music from opera, special lighting from light shows. More often performance artists in their works use speech like in theatre, video, different visual and sound equipment and specifically made installations and set ups.
Is performance something like movement theatre?
Movement theatre is not performance art. Movement theatre is new form of theatre, a part of stage arts. Sometimes dance and movement theatre shows are called performances, but it is not performance art, a part of visual arts. In movement and dance theatres plastics and aesthetics of movement are emphasized. Although in performance art it is also important how beautifully or attractively artist moves but more important is the action itself and results of this action.
