The life of Artis Dzērve is an experiment, where he realizes his ideas. Sometimes it is enough to fulfill an idea within five minutes, but it can take also two years of serious work. When he has fulfilled one idea, he starts another, that can touch absolutely different field of life.

One of his most successful performances is Shower , which was his graduation thesis at the Art Academy of Hamburg. Dzērve made a big metal box with four sections for showers. Four naked men got into each of the section, turned on the water and washed themselves. One man started to whistle, the second to croon, the third to sing a melody. As by chance all the voices wound together and made a song. The only action in the performance was the sound of the water pouring over the bodies and the song. When the song ended, the men finished washing and got out of the shower. This performance was very simple but fulfilling, therefore the spectators in Hamburg asked them to repeat it several times.

Artis Dzērve`s opinion is that art has to be positive, therefore he often finds funny solutions for serious themes in performance. Sometimes during performance he transforms one thing into another: changing from an executioner into a clown or destillating wine into 70 degrees strong liquid in the presence of public. In performance English breakfast done in 1996, he turned a simple idea of breakfast into absurdity. The English breakfast always consists of one boiled egg, but he out on the table 365 eggs – one year's dose of one Englishman. One third of the eggs was boiled, the rest raw. Dzērve sat at the table and truncated the top of every egg with a big knife. If the egg was boiled he ate it. The raw egg just dissolved. Thus, a common breakfast transformed into the killing of many lives.

Performance for Artis Dzērve is a means of communication with other people, it is a way to say something without the help of words. Sometimes he wants to express an idea, but it can be also just a feeling. Viewers presence in Artis Dzērve performance is not always compulsory, because he has done several performances where there are no viewers and that you can watch only on a video. With the help of performance Artis Dzērve tries to brake the stereotypes of society and to make people look on things from another point of view.
